Item One: How to destroy an Urban Economy - lessons for Auckland.

Dr T J Rogers is President and CEO of Cypress Semiconductor, one of the major
success stories of Silicon Valley, currently developing powerful highly
efficient solar panels for generating electricity.

When I was at the American Dream conference last year, a mutual colleague handed
me a copy of this letter Joe had sent to Elisabeth Laurence, in response to her
letter inviting him to join the San Francisco "Global Competitiveness
Initiative" of the Bay Area Council. He explains that he is probably not the
right person for the job because he is understandably reluctant to become a part
of an establishment organisation which seems determined to destroy the elements
of the Bay Area Economy that have made the region so rich and successful. I have
friends and colleagues in the area and I passed it on to them to read. They were
very quiet and the main response was much nodding of some very wise heads.

Read the whole letter here

your own city, its governance, and the economy.

You might find this gallery useful for your next power point production on "how
to deal with bureaucracy". (e.g just toss those inspectors off the drawbridge!)
There are about twenty pictures so it's a big file with much to look at. Play
around with the bottom left hand corner of the screen until you see them all.
